How Directive Parenting Works
|
 |
| Our program teaches you the parenting
skills to improve your child's behavior problems. A sequence of seven steps
leads you to develop a unique plan for each child. The concept is simple:
minimize attention for problem behavior and provide reasonable, supportive
attention for behavior you respect. |
 |
| 1. |
Assess problem behaviors and identify those behaviors you want to target first.
Our interview process will generate a behavior rating report.
|
 |
| 2. |
Understand the issues that may influence your
parenting skills. Discover the strengths and weaknesses of your parenting
style. |
 |
| 3. |
Develop a unique plan to minimize problem behavior by
changing your response to it. Teach your child that good decisions lead to
positive consequences and higher self-esteem. |
 |
| 4. |
Set up a behavior chart and start tracking your
child's problem behavior. After one week, you'll return to the site, login, and
start to develop a consequence system to improve behavior.
|
 |
| 5. |
Calculate your child's baseline behavior which you'll
use to measure progress. |
 |
| 6. |
Determine specific consequences that you will use to
motivate your child to change her behavior. |
 |
| 7. |
Re-calculate your child's baseline behavior. Most
parents will see results in the first two weeks.
